Primary Bedroom Retreat

Primary bedrooms should be a place to decompress, relax and feel peace. Creating a calming environment is essential for a good night’s rest. I got the chance to do this recently for the Weatherly Drive Project.

The primary bedroom is a great size. When my clients purchased their home the bedroom wall color was beautiful and calming. We decided to make that our jumping off point and work with it. It was a good start to creating a calming retreat.

The bed was the first piece we wanted to nail down. My client’s taste is not traditional, but not overly modern, either. It’s somewhere in between. We found a bed that fit the bill. It was a transitional style that has some real oomph to it. It has gorgeous channeling! We selected a beautiful, neutral linen so the details became the star.

Next, we selected large nightstands that had one drawer, but were open at the bottom. Even though they were wide the openness kept the feel light and airy, not a heavy look. For these nightstands, we could completely customize them. We were able to choose the style, hardware, color, and even the legs. They are classic, but have a bit of fun to them.

We added the tall lamps on both sides. The pretty gourd shape is a favorite of mine and looks great in almost every room.

My clients have 2 small kids and were hesitant to put a bench at the end of the bed. They felt it could be a jumping issue. Instead, we opted for a corner chair and ottoman. It’s a place the kids can cuddle with them as well as a place to sit and read the paper. The chair has beautiful lines and is super comfy.

I’m lucky my clients are lovers of sisal. We put a sisal rug in the dining room and as a stair runner and continued it into the bedroom. It’s durable, comes in an array of colors, and can be layered with other rugs. It brings in some texture which adds to the overall feel and look of the room.

The last element to add to the room was a console for beneath the television. They didn’t need additional storage. They already had great closet space. We went with a simple waterfall look that was covered in grass cloth. It added more texture and kept the neutral palette for the room.

We had custom pillows made that brought in the wall color and had a fun pattern. I love the texture of the quilted velvet. It gives the bed a real luxe feel. It was the finishing touch to this beautiful space!
