Part 1: Family Room Reveal

This project began right before the pandemic occurred. A young family relocated to Atlanta from the Midwest. They had one young child and another on the way. The house they bought had been recently renovated. They were fortunate they didn’t have to do any construction to make the house more suitable. They just needed to get it furnished. Little did we know what was instore for all of us in terms of timelines. What should have been a 4-6 month project turned into one that lasted over 1 ½ years waiting on furniture pieces to arrive. Was it worth it? I think definitely, YES!

It’s really great to work with clients that not only have great taste, but trust the process of my firm. The couple wanted to create a family room that could take a beating, be functional and provide a great entertaining spot. They also wanted it to be light, bright and fresh. We started with selecting the grounding piece which was a sectional sofa.

The couple wanted a large seating area. For the size of the space, a sectional was the best option. It could provide more seating than a standard sofa and took up less space than a sofa and multiple chairs. We choose a performance fabric so it could stand up to almost anything including red wine.

They also wanted to be able to literally put their feet up and relax at the end of a long day. Both of my clients work long hours in stressful jobs. They want to come home and completely relax. We choose an ottoman instead of a coffee table so they could do exactly that, put their feet up and relax.

It can fill in for a coffee table when needed by putting a tray on the top to corral items without messing up the actual piece.

Next, we added this cute corner chair.

The spot needed a small piece and this one was sized perfectly. It’s small, but extremely comfortable. The swivel allows anyone who’s sitting in that spot to be able to face the tv when needed. We kept all of the fabrics light and easy to clean. A young family never knows what’s in store with messes. Using performance and easily cleanable fabrics is key to having a long lasting and durable home.

Lastly, the family was gifted a beautiful vintage console and mirror.

This room had a great spot for both. We placed it at the back near the door to the porch. It creates not only interest, but can be used for a serving spot for larger gatherings happening on the porch or adjoining dining room.

The family room and dining room are open to each other. We knew we wanted both of these spaces to work together with a good flow back and forth. Stay tuned for the next blog post that will reveal Part 2: Dining Room Reveal, and you can see how we accomplished that flow.

Here’s some additional pics of the family room space that I just happen to love. Hope you do, too!
