How to Set Up the Best Tailgate Party

It’s that time of year, when football takes center stage. Whether its college ball or pro ball, either way your Saturdays and/or Sundays seem to revolve around game time. I know that’s the case in my house.  Sometimes my husband even wants me to schedule our social life around his football schedule. Anyone else out there have the same issue? Well, it can be fun to plan an evening around your favorite teams. I call it tailgating in style when your entertaining in your own home for a football game.

Depending on who’s playing, set the stage by highlighting the team(s) colors. In my case, we have three, University of Georgia alumni in our home. We are a total Bulldog Nation, Go Dawgs!

We are constantly watching those Georgia Bulldogs. To get in the spirit I chose black and red to be the theme of the evening. Instead of using just a solid black or red table cloth, I found this great black and white buffalo check one. I could have done the same thing with a red and white checked cloth. It would have given me the same effect. Here are some options you can use:

I decided I wanted to bring the football field to the table. I got some moss and cut it into smaller squares to form a “charger” for each place setting.

Here is a moss similar to the one I used:

I brought in the red team colors with the plates:

The polka dot plates I used are no longer available, but you could use either of these:

And layer with these salad plates:

and these dessert bowls:

You could pick any color silverware to work with the theme. I used the white , but here they are in red and you could even bring in the black:

I love using flowers to entertain. Just because it’s a sport’s themed party doesn’t mean you can’t use flowers. I went to a used sporting goods store and found an old football helmet that I could use as my base for flowers. I made it more of a planter and put a touch of red in the arrangement. Again, I tried to bring in the team colors wherever I could on the table.

I also found some fun nostalgic items that were in the same color theme as the “Bulldogs”.  A Coca Cola bottle totally works and has all the same colors as UGA football. It’s also just good ole nostalgic.

I found some cute pics of the UGA stadium as well as nostalgic dorm keychains.

Setting the stage creates the atmosphere for the evening. Let’s face it, it’s way more fun walking into a party that has an ambiance than just walking into a room where a party is being held.

That’s all for now. See ya next time!
