High Point Market Fall 2021

Twice a year thousands of people descend on the town of High Point, NC. It’s a meeting of the minds of design to see, touch and feel every type of furniture and accessory that is out there!

It’s extremely exciting and totally exhausting, but worth every minute. It’s a time that I consider extremely valuable to be able to go and learn as much as I can about specific furniture and accessory lines. I get to touch, feel and sit in everything. It is knowledge that is so important in my field so that I can make recommendations to clients with full confidence.

This past October was the 2nd market since the pandemic; but really the first market with a large turnout that was in person and not over zoom. The trick to going is to map out a plan to make sure you cover all of your intended bases. It is so easy to get distracted! I covered a huge amount of territory in the 2 ½ days that I was there. My goal was to see as many furniture lines as possible to be able to actually test out the pieces for myself. I wanted to see the construction of the pieces. I wanted to be able to sit and determine the comfort level of the seating for less familiar furniture lines. I wanted to see the quality of it all!

I took away several trends that are happening in almost every line. The first was that it’s all about being cozy.

So many of the fabrics being shown are super soft in neutral colors and green (lots of green, everywhere).

Many of them make you want to just crawl in and stay forever. Teddy bear like fabric, velvets and boucle are everywhere! They not only look great, but feel wonderful and cozy!

Another trend I recognized in every line, was more performance fabric choices. For families, really anyone, performance fabrics are great for life’s messes. They can stand up to dirt, spills, even red wine. The choices have exploded with so many more offerings. Velvets, chenille’s, and even linen are being offered with a performance option. There’s no reason you can’t have it all, beauty and performance, together.

Curves are back! Sofas, chairs , and wood furniture pieces are showing soft curves instead of straight lines.

Lastly, I saw a ton of wicker and rattan. Furniture lines are incorporated this trend into upholstery pieces as well as beds, desks, and dining pieces.

It’s even being used with lighting! They are beautiful and add texture to a space.

There are many more than just these four trends happening this year! Too many for this post. You’ll be seeing them in my own work in the coming months. I left feeling inspired and more motivated than ever ! I can’t wait to start incorporating them into my own designs.
